Miranda Lambert Nabs First No. 1 Spot on Album Charts

Country star Miranda Lambert notched her first No. 1 album last week, as heavy metal golden gods Led Zeppelin made a puissant reappearance in the U.S. top 10.

Lambert’s “Platinum” (RCA Nashville) commanded the top position with first-week sales of 180,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending June 8. The vocalist’s previous best came in late 2011, when her previous title “Four the Record” peaked at No. 3.

The sole other new release was rapper 50 Cent’s “Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire to Win” (G-Unit), which bowed at No. 4 with a 47,000-unit score. His last release, “Before I Self Destruct,” stalled at No. 5 in 2009; he has since ended his association with Eminem’s Shady imprint.

Atlantic’s deluxe reissues of the first three Led Zeppelin albums made splashy re-entries in the top 10. The British quartet’s self-titled 1969 debut debuted at No. 7, tracking 37,000; “Led Zeppelin II,” originally issued the same year, landed at No. 9, reaping 34,000; and the acoustic-based “Led Zeppelin III” (1970) arrived at No. 10, scoring 32,000. On original release, the first album topped out at No. 10, while its two successors both reached No. 1.

The week’s top 10 holdovers included the “Frozen” soundtrack (No. 2, 52,000, off 11%), Brantley Gilbert’s “Just As I Am” (No. 3, 48,000, down 26%), Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories” (No. 5, 46,000, off 45%) and the “Now 50” hits compilation (No. 6, 41,000, up 1%).

The soundtrack for “The Fault In Our Stars” returned to the top 10 at No. 8, shifting 36,000 (up 165%). The album, which gained 10 chart posts, occupied the same slot on its debut two weeks ago, but made a huge rebound with the theatrical release of the pic, which was the top grosser of the weekend.
