Vanessa Williams, the “Ugly Betty” star who is also a Broadway vet, will be the next guest star to have a stint in “After Midnight,” the Cotton Club-era revue that was conceived to accommodate a revolving door of visiting topliners.
The musical launched last fall with Fantasia Barrino, who was followed earlier this month by k.d. lang. Williams will step into “After Midnight” after Toni Braxton and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds appear in the show next month.
Williams starred in last season’s Broadway revival of “The Trip to Bountiful” and also has “Into the Woods,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and “Sondheim on Sondheim” on her Main Stem resume. In “After Midnight,” she’ll sing four songs which may or may not be the same tunes sung by Barrino and lang in the show, which is helmed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle.
Williams rotates into “After Midnight” on April 1 for an engagement that runs through May 11. Stars to follow in her footsteps remain to be announced.
