If Neil Patrick Harris was nervous about being up for a Tony Award, he didn’t show it as he walked the red carpet outside Radio City Music Hall on Sunday.
Harris was all smiles as he paused to take pictures with fans before stepping into the theater. Harris is nommed for his performance in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
Bryan Cranston drew cheers from the fans as he strode the carpet. He was just coming off his matinee perf of “All the Way,” the play for which he is nominated. He had two special guests in the audience, Bill and Hillary Clinton. Having a real commander in chief watching him play Lyndon B. Johnson in the Oval Office didn’t make him nervous. “Exceptionally well” is how he described today’s show.
“If/Then” star Idina Menzel was greeted by screams from the crowd as were Broadway faves such as Audra McDonald and Tony Shalhoub.
Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Hudson and Leighton Meister were among the other stars on hand.
Alan Cumming arrived in his “Cabaret” suspenders and short pants, but made a beeline for the stage door while fans screamed “Wilkommen!”
