Richard Chamberlain has signed on to the New Group’s upcoming revival of David Rabe’s “Sticks and Stones,” the Vietnam-era tale already set to star Holly Hunter and Bill Pullman.

He’ll play the family priest in the story about parents (Hunter and Pullman) struggling with new challenges once their son returns home from Vietnam. It’s been a while since Chamberlain has shown up on the New York stage; he last appeared on the Rialto  in “The Sound of Music” in 1999.

The fall production launches the 2014-15 season of the New Group, the Off Broadway company that has recently attracted stars to productions including “Annapurna” (Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman) and “The Jacksonian” (Ed Harris, Amy Madigan and Pullman).

Directed by New Group a.d. Scott Elliott, “Sticks and Bones” begins previews in October at the Signature Center in midtown.

Nice. Glad that Richard is still alive, healthy, steady, and working. Good luck to him.
