Big Block Entertainment, the company behind the well-received Off Broadway run of the musical adaptation of “Heathers,” has Broadway plans for “A Family Thing,” a new play by former “Orange is the New Black” writer-producer Gary Lennon.
A bicoastal production company for film, TV, stage and design, Big Block has optioned the title with the intention of bringing the play to Broadway in 2015. Cast, production team, dates and theater all remain to be set.
The play’s storyline follows three estranged brothers who reunite to settle old scores. “Family Thing” had its world premiere at L.A.’s Echo Theater in 2013.
Lennon currently serves as co-exec producer on Starz series “Power,” and is penning a Showtime series for Robert Downey, Jr.
Led by Scott Benson, Scott Prisand (“Rock of Ages,” “Legally Blonde”) and Jamie Bendell (“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” ), Big Block is also at work on upcoming film “Ride,” starring Luke Wilson and Helen Hunt.
