‘Muppets’ Puppeteer John Henson Dies at 48

Puppeteer John Henson, the youngest son of the late Muppets creator Jim Henson who performed as the nine-foot-tall ogre Sweetums for many years, died Friday after a heart attack. He was 48.

John Henson was a shareholder in and board member of the Jim Henson Co. His credits in the Sweetums character, for which he provided the voice and performed in a body suit, include pics “Muppet Treasure Island,” “It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie” and “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz.”

    How incredibly sad that Mr. Henson has been taken from us at the too young age of 48. His talent was evidenced in numerous projects and he had a master teacher from whom he learned his craft – his dad, Jim. My condolences are extended to his wife and daughters at their loss.
