Jeffrey Ressner Dead: Entertainment Journalist at Time, US Weekly Dies at 56

Journalist Jeffrey Ressner, who covered entertainment, politics, business and pop culture, died June 28 of heart arrhythmia at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 56.

Ressner was Los Angeles correspondent for Time magazine from 1993-2007, profiling individuals ranging from media moguls to white supremacists.

He began his career as a messenger at the L.A. Weekly eventually becoming a contributing editor. He went on to positions at Cash Box and the Hollywood Reporter, where he covered the music
industry in the mid-1980s.

He joined Rolling Stone as a senior writer in 1988. Next he became West Coast bureau chief for US Weekly. Later he was a staff correspondent for Politico, reporting on where Hollywood and politics intersected. In recent years, he was a regular contributor to the DGA Quarterly.

Ressner was born in Lakewood, N.J., and graduated with a degree in journalism from Northwestern University.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Rina Echavez; sister Lise Olson; and stepmother, Roz Ressner.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn in Burbank.
