Wolfe Video Picks Up All North American Rights To Berlin Panorama Player ‘The Circle’

PARIS– Wolfe Video has acquired all North American rights to Stefan Haupt’s gay emancipation docu-drama “The Circle” (Der Kreis), the Wide House-repped title which won Berlin’s Panorama Audience nod and Teddy award.

Set in Zurich in the 1950’s, “The Circle” centers on a young teacher from the middle class who falls madly in love with a transvestite star, Robi Rapp, and becomes a member of the first gay rights organization Ker Kreis.

Maria Lynn, Wolfe Video’s CEO called “The Circle” a “very special film and its elegant documentation of our history.” “The Circle” was also sold to Poland’s Tongariro Releasing. It was produced by Contrast Film Zurich and will be released in Germany by Salzgeber and in Switzerland by Ascot Elite in the Fall.

At Berlin, Paris-based documentary specialist Wide House also closed key all-rights deals on Kenneth Elvebakk’s “Ballet Boys” with France’s ZED and Japan’s Uplink. “Ballet Boys,” which chronicles the lives of three top ballet students over a four-year period, previously sold to Matchbox (UK) and CMV Laservision (Germany).  It was produced by Oslo-based Indie Film and backed by the Norwegian Film Institute.

“The Great Museum,” about Vienna’s world famous Kunsthistorisches Museum,  sold to Japan’s DOMA Inc., U.K.’s Matchbox and Italy’s Officine Ubu. French distributor Jour2Fete will distribute the doc in theaters this Fall.

Lastly, Sascha Seifert’s “Slow” sold to Italy’s Biograph.
