Berlin Film Festival Berlinale

Wild Bunch Germany has acquired German-speaking territory rights to “Millionaire Dog,” a live-action canine comedy that is proving a breakout sales hit for DeAPlaneta.

The Wild Bunch deal was struck at Berlin and adds to an impressive string of pre-sales — “Millionaire Dog” will not be released in Spain till June by DeAPlaneta — which take in CDC United Networks for Latin American TV rights, AB Droits Audiovisuels for French-speaking Europe, Krisco Media (Middle East plus India), Turkey’s Medyavizyon and Volga Film for CIS markets.

Helmed by Tom Fernandez, “Millionaire Dog” is produced by Four Luck Banana and Atresmedia Cine. DeAPlaneta is showing footage at EFM and will screen the completed film at the Cannes market. “Millionaire Dog” is based on a terrier that became a social phenom in Spain after a series of lottery ads.

“It’s a family film — and that sells well in international — and dog films are a very easy concept,” said DeAPlaneta’s Intl. sales manager, Gorka Bilbao.
