“Star Wars” fans have used a pun (“May the 4th be with you”) to make May 4 into an unofficial “Star Wars” holiday and Disney has clearly embraced the rallying cry, giving a fans something to hold them over before J.J. Abrams’ “Episode VII” bows in 2015.
Disney has released the full trailer for the upcoming animated Star Wars TV series “Star Wars Rebels,” which follows the starship Ghost as they fight back against the Empire after Imperial forces take over a remote planet. It takes place in between “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.”
“In a time of darkness, when fear ruled the galaxy, heroes will rise, destinies will collide and a rebellion will ignite,” reads the trailer.
The trailer shows some Rebels vs. Empire action, the unique animation and sets the tone for the dark time in the galaxy. It will air on the Disney Channel Sunday during the premiere of “Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles.”
The series is one of the projects stemming from Disney’s 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion. “Episode VII,” for which the cast was announced on Tuesday, is set for Dec. 18, 2015.
“Star Wars Rebels” will premiere in the fall as a one-hour special on the Disney Channel, then continue as a series on Disney XD.
