Star Wars” fans have used a pun (“May the 4th be with you”) to make May 4 into an unofficial “Star Wars” holiday and Disney has clearly embraced the rallying cry, giving a fans something to hold them over before J.J. Abrams’ “Episode VII” bows in 2015.

Disney has released the full trailer for the upcoming animated Star Wars TV series “Star Wars Rebels,” which follows the starship Ghost as they fight back against the Empire after Imperial forces take over a remote planet. It takes place in between “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.”

“In a time of darkness, when fear ruled the galaxy, heroes will rise, destinies will collide and a rebellion will ignite,” reads the trailer.

The trailer shows some Rebels vs. Empire action, the unique animation and sets the tone for the dark time in the galaxy. It will air on the Disney Channel Sunday during the premiere of “Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles.”

The series is one of the projects stemming from Disney’s 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion. “Episode VII,” for which the cast was announced on Tuesday, is set for Dec. 18, 2015.

More jazzed about this than JJ Abrams’ movies. The cartoon crew has captured the right balance between kid- and grownup-appeal to re-create the popcorn fun of the original trilogy. The artwork is exceptional (love seeing those amazing worlds they dream up!) and it looks like they’re tamping down the “bobble head” look of the characters that was a bit annoying in Clone Wars. Star Wars is a lot healthier than Star Trek nowadays (especially with the Robert Orci announcement, argh.)

best star wars tv show was the original animated clone wars(no CGI)on cartoon network(looked like samurai jack)

Meh–looks just like the previous incarnations, which were both bad enough. It’s as if they let monkeys make it and edited it in a food processor. Truly awful.

Scott, you are an idiot. If you are going to post a comment, at least attempt to appear intelligent.
