Watch: Steve Carell, Channing Tatum in ‘Foxcatcher’ Teaser

The eerie teaser for Steve Carell-starrer “Foxcatcher” debuted on Monday but, thanks to a prosthetic nose and aging makeup, Carell is just about unrecognizable.

The actor stars as super-rich John du Pont, an heir to the DuPont Chemical fortune, and tells the true story of the mentally ill wrestling fanatic who was eventually convicted for murder. Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo star as Olympic wrestling champions Mark and Dave Schultz, who du Pont chose to coach.

The film premiered this weekend at Cannes and reviews have been enormously positive. Variety‘s Justin Chang called it “powerfully disturbing” and highlighted the performances of the three leading men. Carell’s performance has been singled out for praise, with the star taking a dramatic turn from his usual comedic fare, and generating Oscar buzz even at this early stage.

The film comes from Annapurna/Sony Pictures Classics and also stars Sienna Miller and Anthony Michael Hall. Bennett Miller directed, with E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman penning the script.

“Foxcatcher” is set to hit theaters Nov. 14.

Foxcatcher looks formidable. Excellent trailer, solid casting, powerful story and Steve C. blew everyone away with his “Way Way Back” and “Dan in Real Life.” Who in Hollywood can nail broad comedy with perfection, transform into believable romantic leading man, and nail dark drama with pitch perfect perfection? Steve C. without a doubt… plus Tat and Ruff are audience darlings that can do no wrong. I’d bet Vegas that this one pulls in every quad. I’m guessing the only drag on the lift off in the U.S. audience might be the central focal point of wrestling where you might lose a few slices of the quads. Kudos to those who did the final casting because they nailed the chemistry and talent which might overcome the downer story (true murder.) GOOD LUCK FOXCATCHER & TEAM COR-TAT-RUFF!

    “generating early oscar buzz”

    Sooooo Sick of such things.
The Oscar has become far more a Popularity or PC prize than it is for Acting.
A Shadow of it’s earlier self if any shadow at all.

And if it does turn out to be as everyone is predicting? I’m soooo sick of you armchair critics that don’t know shit from shineola…but always have an opinion. To quote The Rock…IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!!!
