LONDON — Warner Bros. was the top grossing film distributor in the U.K. last year. It is the third time in four years that it has led the distributors’ chart.

Warner Bros. grossed £194 million ($320 million) in 2013 to claim the top spot with a 16.5% market share, according to Rentrak.

The distrib’s top performer was “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” with $54.2 million, followed by “Man of Steel” with $49.3 million, and “Gravity” with $45 million.

Josh Berger, prexy and managing director, Warner Bros. U.K., Ireland and Spain, said, “We’re thrilled to be named the U.K.’s number one film distributor for the third time in four years, a first for any studio here in the U.K. 2013 was one of the most tightly-contested years in recent memory.”

2014 promises to be another strong year for Warner Bros. with a slate that includes “Godzilla,” Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar,” “Horrible Bosses 2,” “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” Doug Liman’s “Edge of Tomorrow” and the Wachowski siblings’ “Jupiter Ascending.”

The latter two were the first movies to be produced at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden since its U.K. production base opened in June 2012.
