Vince Vaughn Circles Role for Second Season of ‘True Detective’

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn is in early talks to join the cast of the second season of HBO’s “True Detective,” sources tell Variety.

Though talks are just getting off the ground, casting is expected to come together fast as shooting is set to begin next month. Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are also in talks.

The role is unknown but sources say it is unlikely that Vaughn would play one of the lead detectives in the show as the third lead is expected to be played by a woman.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is still working on the scripts while HBO moves quickly to assemble the cast. Sources say Vaughn has been interested in joining for sometime and has been campaigning with HBO for a part in the show.

HBO is also looking for a director and sources say it is likely that there will be multiple directors this season, unlike the last, when Cary Fukunaga helmed every episode.

The network is also working hard to find the female lead and while no decision has been made, several insiders say HBO may be eyeing “Mad Men” actress Elisabeth Moss. Sources add that no decision has been made and meetings are still taking place.

Vaughn is repped by CAA and was last seen in DreamWorks’ “Delivery Man.” The Vaughn news was first reported by TVLine.

  2. Owen Wilson as the partner

  3. Vaughn is a good actor who has been stereotyped in nothing but comedies. Dude has talent and one day he will change your minds.

Wow, that drop-off was a lot steeper than I expected. I thought they’d go bold with interesting actors again, not trawl the B-list.
