Variety reporter Andrew Stewart has been tapped as Imax’s manager of corporate communications, effective June 2.
Stewart, who has worked at Variety since 2008, will report to Ann Sommerlath, senior VP of global corporate communications. He’ll be based in the company’s Santa Monica office.
Stewart has specialized in coverage of box office and theatrical exhibition. He was part of the Variety team that won honors at the Southern California Journalism Awards in Entertainment News or Feature Magazine writing for the package “Great Mall of China” and has been nominated this year for co-writing a feature story on the end of film.
Stewart will work on supporting coverage of Imax in trade, financial and consumer media and on strategic initiatives to communicate the corporate, film and brand messages.
“I’ve known Andrew for many years as a top-notch journalist who is well-respected in the film and entertainment community and I am now delighted to welcome him to Imax,” said Greg Foster, senior executive VP Imax Corp and CEO of Imax Entertainment. “Andrew’s skills, industry knowledge and relationships will add tremendous value to our marketing and communications efforts and I look forward to his contributions.”
Stewart received a bachelor’s degrees in news-editorial and film studies from the U. of Nebraska.
