SHANGHAI – The Vancouver Film School and Shanghai University are to create a jointly-operated film school in Shanghai.

The Shanghai Vancouver Film School will be located at the Zhabei Film and TV Production Park, and will also serve as a post-production base.

Courses will span production, visual effects, sound design and 3D animation. Initially it will draw 80% of its faculty from North America.

The new school will open its doors to 100 students later this year and expand its intake to 1,000 per year by 2022.

Those attending a launch ceremony on the margins of the Shanghai International Film Festival included Norman Griffin, president of the Shanghai Vancouver Film Academy, and Martin Hasselbach, its MD, as well as a handful of VFS graduates.
