“Ricki and the Flash,” written by Diablo Cody with Jonathan Demme directing, follows an aging rock star trying to reconnect with her family. Sources say Sony and TriStar like the date as the film could serve as good summer counterprogramming for adults after the success Streep has had with pics such as “The Devil Wears Prada.”
The Zemeckis pic is based on Philippe Petit’s memoirs “To Reach the Clouds,” and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon and James Badge Dale. Insiders say that after the success of Warner Bros.’ “Gravity,” this film could see similar results in the slot because Zemeckis is shooting in 3D as well.
These will be Rothman’s first two films to be released since he took over as head of TriStar earlier this year.
