Tribeca Film to Release Nas Documentary ‘Time Is Illmatic’ in October, with Nas Concerts in Some Cities

Nas Time is Illmatic

New York-based distributor Tribeca Film has picked up North American rights to “Time is Illmatic,” the hip-hop doc that opened the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

Written by Erik Parker and directed by One9, the documentary chronicles the creation of “Illmatic,” the seminal 1994 album by Nas. Tribeca plans a day-and-date October release for the pic in theaters and on VOD, with live performances by Nas in some cities.

After the TFF world premiere of the film in April, Nas performed a concert of the entire “Illmatic” album for the festival’s opening nighters.

Distribution deal was pacted by Tribeca’s Nick Savva with David Koh, Dan Braun and Josh Braun for Submarine Entertainment and WME’s Liesl Copland. One9, Parker and Anthony Saleh produce the film.
