‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ to Kick Start New Trilogy

Transformers

The already far-reaching “Transformers” universe is about to expand even wider.

Director Michael Bay will be rebooting the robot franchise with at least two more movies. This summer’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction” will set up the new movies.

“It’s kind of like a new Transformers,” Bay told Entertainment Weekly. “We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one. It’s the first of a new trilogy. I’m not necessarily sure that I’m doing [the others], but that’s what it’s meant for.”

The last film, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” grossed $1.1 billion worldwide in 2011 — the highest of all three pics. Overall, the franchise has hauled $2.6 billion in the global box office.

Other changes rocking the movie series include new dinobots and a new cast. Mark Wahlberg will star in place of Shia LaBeouf. Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Kelsey Grammar, Stanley Tucci and T.J. Miller will round out the cast.

“Transformers 4,” which hits theaters on June 27, finds the government working to wipe out the Transformers. Wahlberg’s character tries to convince Optimus that there’s still good in the world after he lose faith in mankind.

  2. filmrunner says:

I don’t get this movie. Michael Bay has repeatedly said in interviews that he’s trying to do a darker, more adult Transformers with this one and he decided to do it with robot dinosaurs.

  3. JIM says:

IF THEY RELEASE TRANSFORMERS 4 AND TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES IN 2014 I’M GOING TO KILL ALL OF YOU!!!!!!
