Strong festival reception hastens theatrical outing

TORONTO — Johnnie To-directed comedy “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2” is to get a release in Canada, starting out from Toronto, on Nov. 14.

Distributor Magnum Pictures, which holds all North American rights, has set the release in order to capitalize on the film’s outings in China and Hong Kong on Nov. 11. Magnum committed to the date following an enthusiastic Toronto festival outing on Monday (Sept. 8), even though it has not yet set a U.S. date.

Magnum pre-bought rights to the picture from Media Asia during Cannes.

This week in Toronto Magnum pre-bought Australia and New Zealand rights to two other Media Asia titles action thriller “Helios” co-directed by Sunny Luk and Longman Leung and “Triumph In the Sky,” the now-in-production adaptation of a well-known TV series about behind the scenes life at an airline.

Media Asia says that it is in advanced discussions with Japanese distributors to release “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” parts I and II together.
