Toronto: Arclight Films to Distribute Chinese Thriller ‘Deathday Party’

Arclight Films will handle international distribution on “The Deathday Party,” a Chinese psychological crime thriller that stars American-born Chinese thesp Archie Kao.

He stars opposite Anita Yuen as a couple fighting to save themselves and their daughter from demons of the past.

The picture is the feature debut of New Zealand-born writer-director Eddie Tse. Amos Xue produced.

“ ‘Deathday Party’ represents a new breed of Chinese film that takes on Hollywood-style concepts. The film is set entirely in an imaginary city in the U.S. and all of its combined concepts make it a breakthrough film that will drive its sales potential all around the world,” said Arclight’s Elliot Tong.

The film is presented by Brightstar Cinema, China Film Co., Hengdian Movies Co., Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment Co. and Emei Film Group Co. Huayi Bros. will release the film in China; Arclight sold the pic to Hong Kong distributor My Way Films.
