U.K. laffer takes $4.63 million on its first day at the home box office
LONDON — “The Inbetweeners 2” has recorded the biggest ever opening-day gross for a comedy at the U.K. box office, beating the record-breaking tally achieved by its predecessor, “The Inbetweeners Movie.”
“The Inbetweeners 2,” which opened in movie theaters across the U.K. Wednesday, took more than £2.75 million ($4.63 million).
The films are spin-offs from the Channel 4 TV series, which focuses on the adolescent angst and japes of four teen guys, Will, Simon, Jay and Neil.

The latest film sees the young ones visiting Australia. It is written and directed by series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, and produced by Spencer Millman (“The Mighty Boosh,” “Man Down”).
It is produced by Bwark Prods., a Zodiak Media company, and co-financed with Channel 4’s film-making arm Film4. Entertainment Film Distributors is distributing the film in the U.K. and Ireland.
“The Inbetweeners Movie,” which was fully financed by Film4, took over £45 million ($75.7 million) at the U.K. box office in 2011.
