Homesman Hamptons Film Festival Tommy Lee

The 2014 Hamptons Intl. Film Festival will spotlight Tommy Lee Jones’ upcoming Western “The Homesman” as its centerpiece film, one of the first titles to be named to the slate of the 22nd annual Long Island event.

Multihyphenate actor Bob Balaban will serve as honorary chairman for this year’s fest, at which Hilary Swank, who co-stars in “The Homesman” with Jones, will appear as part of the fest’s series of public conversations.

Also on the HIFF slate this year are Rory Culkin starrer “Gabriel,” Volker Schlondorff’s WWII tale “Diplomacy” and Dan Roe’s short film “Weenie,” all part of the Showtime-sponsored “Views from Long Island” section. Tribeca Film Festival alum “Gabriel” was largely filmed on Long Island, while Schlondorff lives in Amagansett.

“Homesman” centers on a woman (Swank) who hires a drifter (Jones) to help her shepherd three woman across the American frontier. The film premiered at Cannes.

The 22nd annual Hamptons fest runs Oct. 9-13, with the rest of the lineup still to be set.
