‘The Conjuring’ Spinoff ‘Annabelle’ Starts Shooting Jan. 27

The Conjuring

Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton tapped for leads

New Line will begin production of “Annabelle,” its spinoff of “The Conjuring,” on Jan. 27 in Los Angeles.

Peter Safran and “The Conjuring” director James Wan are producing.

Variety first reported in July that New Line was developing a sequel to “The Conjuring,” a tale of demonic possession set in a Rhode Island farmhouse. The film was a massive success with a worldwide gross of $318 million on a $20 million budget.

Annabelle Wallis (“Peaky Blinders”) and Ward Horton will star in “Annabelle” with John Leonetti, the cinematographer on “The Conjuring,” directing from a script by Gary Dauberman.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who starred in “The Conjuring” as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, are not in the spinoff. “The Conjuring” included a haunted doll named Annabelle as part of the Warrens’ collection of demonic objects.

New Line is still developing a sequel to “The Conjuring.”

The Wrap first reported the castings of Wallis and Horton.

  1. lisa andrews says:

if vera farmiga and patrick wilson’s not in the movie… then why bother watch this spin-off?

  2. I don’t understand the concept of calling something a “spinoff” when it is supposedly based on a true story….nor a sequel for that matter….but what do I know, ha????
