"Pan" will open in its place on July 17, 2015

Warner Bros. has pushed production on the untitled “Superman-Batman” movie to the second quarter of this year and it will now be released on May 6, 2016.

The Peter Pan origin story “Pan” that Joe Wright is directing from a script by Jason Fuchs is being put in its place on July 17, 2015. “Superman-Batman” will now square off against a Marvel film which Marvel has still not announced.

The film is still in pre-production with Henry Cavill set to star alongside Affleck, and Zack Snyder is on to helm.

In a statement, Warners said the decision was made to “help fully realize the vision.” Warners is still casting the film including the main villain role which sources tell Variety is still in Joaquin Phoenix’s court.

This marks another film to leave what was turning out to be a very crowded 2015 summer, with “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” and the new “Star Wars” also moving out of the frame.

One continuing moving part is what this means for Affleck and his always busy schedule. Affleck was planning on directing “Live by Night” following production on “Superman-Batman,” with Warners already dating “Night” for Dec. 25, 2015.

It now seems unlikely that Affleck would be able to jump into the director’s chair before the end of 2014, which would put pressure on getting the film done on time in order to meet WB’s deadline.

Batman-Superman” will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

The screenplay will be written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

  1. I think Erica Durance should play Wonder woman!!she seems to have a nice sweet personality that fits the character, not just the suit!

  2. dnno1 says:

I have this feeling that the film was delayed so that they could coordinate the Justice League movie into the production. If the two films are to be shot together, they will need to know what the story line for the second film will be in order to do proper coordination.

  3. Marvel boy says:

What are the Vegas odds of Affleck dropping out ? Any takers ?

  4. Geo says:

It sounds like WB is buying time, what for I’m not sure yet. But don’t be surprised if they release a different DC character film around that time slot. It only makes sense to build up their universe and the hype for the MOS sequel. In fact, it will give them the time needed to produce a well scripted film. Also, if they are filming back to back films, they would save millions and have a more developed storyline for their universe. I will hate the wait between now and then, but I have to admit that it sounds like the studios want to improve on the writing that was MOS. I just hope they do the same thing with the director. So Ben Affleck PLEASE help jump in and do something about that.

  6. big daddy D says:

I heard there was talk of Dwayne Johnson doing a John Stewart Green Lantern..also Lobo. I’d see both those versions..Although a Polynesian GL is kinda silly. Where’s the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool treatment? I LOVE the merc with a mouth.

  7. Sounds to me like there’s gonna be some re-casting….and I’d say get a new director in the process! The dude doesn’t know what the heck he’s doing. I mean, did you SEE “Man of Streel?” It was DREADFUL!

    • WAM says:

AGREE…100 percent…get rid of snyder…and his wife and the whole damn brain trust who did Man of Steel. Superman doesn’t save his Dad from a Tornado….STUPID……Superman kills thousands in a fight with Zod….ridiculous….and the ending where he just puts on glasses to become Clark Kent….Clark Kent was always so much more than just putting on glasses….

      • big daddy D says:

Kills thousands?? Did I miss that part of the movie? And Zach Snyder did 300 and Watchmen..and both those movies ROCKED!! I’ll give him a pass for those 2 movies alone.

  8. Van D says:

Let Affleck drop out. Cast Jim Caveizel as Batman, and recast Wonder Woman.

    • big daddy D says:

Caveizel-ok. I like his role on Person of interest. .which means I’m cool with Affleck backing out. But I also say give Gadot a shot. She’s an israeli army vet, so she’s got the skills. Who else can play the part with equal physicality…And PLEASE don’t say Michelle Rodriguez. I’m getting sick of seeing her face in every action movie…not that she’s not a sexy dyke. Gina Carano or Zoe Bell maybe?

      • Good call on Stana Katic (beckett from Castle), I think Erica Durance should play Wonder woman!!she seems to have a nice sweet personality that fits the character, not just the suit! both Canadian actresses would work well!

      • Mic says:

Have you ever considered Kate Beckett off of Castle? She’s done physical clearly, she also is a Wonder Woman in real life (speaks a few languages, likes a lot of Tomboy-ish things, does practice some kind of martial art though I forgot which one, and looks good in a bikini). Not only that but she is also a thicker not fat, but more muscular looking woman already and could easily have the look of Wonder Woman. The only thing wrong would be what age they want WW to be, but honestly, I think she can pull off a younger age because she still looks fairly young. If they were going for an early thirties WW, I can see it and frankly, I would like for all the main three to be in different age groups: Superman 20s, Batman 40s, and Wonder Woman 30s.

  9. Jake Speed says:

Looks like there may be an attempt to create a conflict that will allow Affleck to drop out without looking ridiculous. WB execs then also can claim they made a good decision but that the timing wasn’t there.

The story must capture the heroic nature of these characters. Marvel has done so, flawed persons rise to do heroic deeds. WB in Man of Steel took a heroic character (with stupendous power) and lowered him to the point of murder in the defense of others. If they are not careful WB and DC will taint these characters for a generation.

  10. Rob says:

why cant they recast wonder women. gal gadot is wooden, cant speak english clearly and is the wrong body shape/build

    • Viki says:

It would actually be good if Gal Gadot can’t speak english clearly, considering how Wonder Woman isn’t even a native English speaker. She can train to be WW, she’s got two years and her acting will probably improve.

  11. Alex says:

NOOOOOOOOO!!! WHY!! WHYYYYY! FK PAN give us Superman-Batman!

  12. Clifford says:

who cares, its gonna suck anyways

  13. DougW says:

Did WB have to choose a date already claimed by Marvel? Marvel may move off 5/6/16, but they have the goods to bump WB films 2-3 times a year. WB better fill in their calendar in pencil.

  14. Living the Geek Life says:

Reblogged this on Living the Geek Life and commented:
This move makes the recent rumor – about filming a Justice League movie back-to-back with BvS – make lot more sense! do you think we’ll get a JL movie sooner now?

    • Mic says:

Actually, Living the Geek Life, I think that this is the JL movie. Don’t be fooled by the fact that they aren’t calling it as such. Truthfully, what they are doing right now is trying to have an actual plan like Marvel does. Just think about it, if Wonder Woman is kick-butt in the film and they can realistically pull her character off, then naturally fans are going to want a film for her and want it fast, not three to four years later. So, right now, they’re plotting out all of the possible films that will come from this non-JL JL movie just in case it does go well, just like how Marvel already has phase 3 planned out well before we’re even half-way done with phase 2. What they’ll most likely do is film a Wonder Woman film along with it rather than a JL movie because Ben still wants and needs to direct his own projects.

  15. Cal-Al says:

2016!!! Really? Most of us could be dead by then. Tired of hearing “pushed back”, the doctor who birthed the producers should have pushed back. Lol jk

  16. Why says:

Goyer is an abysmal writer and continues destroying DC. Sad

  17. If AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY manage to underperform and perhaps even harm the IRON MAN franchise by spreading Tony Stark too thin, then THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA and HULK are certainly not sufficient to re-inflate the Marvel Studios movie juggernaut. Warner Bros needs to seize this comic book frenzy which Marvel has meticulously nurtured by reminding audiences that the great heroes created before 1961; Superman, Batman, Robin and Wonder Woman all in print by 1941; have reservoirs of authenticity unmatched in the Marvel-Verse. DC has characters who were embraced by the Greatest Generation and who emerged unbowed from the Me Generation: that’s not nothing! Delay? Nay! Bring out the Justice League, Warner Bros!

    • JoelR says:

Hope that I NEVER have to deal with Robin in any theatrical feature. Keep him in the cartoons where he belongs. (Fingers crossed.)

      • JoelR says:

I was actually one of those who voted (via the 800 number) to kill the character back in the 80s. Sadly, they brought Robin back. The character has never worked…which is why there have been so many kids donning costume. Last I heard, one of them is Batman’s kid??? Robin is an outdated relic of the kid-sidekick trend of the 1940s. The films should leave him in the dust-bin where he belongs. He only serves to diminish the Batman’s effectiveness.

      • big daddy D says:

I agree! The best thing to happen to the Robin character was the Joker beating him to death. Lol! Nightwing is pretty cool, though.

  18. Steve says:

I wonder if this part of some crazy plan to actually finish the script???

  19. JoelR says:

This wouldn’t be such bad news if there were going to be a Flash or Wonder Woman or Green Lantern (done right this time) movie in-between. But WB is so short-sighted that they have nothing in the pipeline. The tragedy is that the DC characters can’t be farmed out to other studios.(remember, this is the studio that turned down a Joss Whedon written/directed Wonder Woman flick.)

    • big daddy D says:

Which only goes to show how dysfunctional WB is. Joss Whedon is a God! Buffy/Angel/Serenity. .god knoqs how many writing credits. JW is the SHIZNIT!

  20. Jack Tatum says:

Yes! That’s a brilliant idea. Snub the last loyal movie going audience, the comic book crowd! Nothing I want to see more than ANOTHER Peter Pan story. If I want to watch Peter Pan, I’ll go to a nightclub and watch the geriatric baby boomers try to pick up 22 year old girls.

Sorry Mr. Affleck, you’re going to make a great Batman. Absolutely brilliant! Lets run a ‘Girls’ and ‘Duck Dynasty’ marathon on every channel while we’re at it.

    • big daddy D says:

I’ll give mr. Affleck the benefit of the doubt. He’s a good director..And he can’t do any worse than Daredevil….right?

  21. My goodness; WB really has no idea what they are doing. By 2016, nobody is going to know or care about this.

  22. James says:

  23. Nick says:

Guessing that leg injury rumor holds more water now

  24. Dale Hopson says:

Wonder Woman deserves her own film… PERIOD! Batman & Superman team up is enough for one movie!

  25. The Kingslayer says:

Hmm not sure if this is a good thing or not, I fear WB have delayed it so they can morph it into a Justice League movie.

Could we please just have one Man Of Steel sequel before we go down the JLA route, I am fine with including Batman in the movie but we don’t need any appearences from Wonder Woman, Flash etc.
