Steve Zaillian to Rewrite and Produce ‘Montezuma’ for DreamWorks

Project is being developed as a directing vehicle for Steven Spielberg

Steve Zaillian has come on to rewrite and producing the historical drama “Montezuma” which is being developed as a directing vehicle for Steven Spielberg.

Spielberg is also producing, and while he has shown interest in directing the pic, he still has not committed to helming. DreamWorks is also courting Javier Bardem to star.

Story revolves around the Spanish explorer and conquistador Hernan Cortes, who is looked at as the man responsible for the fall of the Aztec empire.

Zaillian is repped by WME. Deadline Hollywood was the first to report the news.
