George Lucas Hasn’t Watched the New ‘Star Wars’ Trailer

The Force may be strong with the first teaser trailer for “Star Wars: Episode VII” (which has amassed more than 50 million views on YouTube since its debut), but the man who created the iconic franchise apparently hasn’t joined in the appreciation.

George Lucas recently told Page Six that he has yet to watch “The Force Awakens” footage, “Because it’s not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there. I plan to see it when it’s released.” Whether that means he’s waiting to see the trailer in theaters or holding out for the entire film is unclear, but the teaser did hit 30 locations over Thanksgiving weekend.

J.J. Abrams is helming the pic, which is set for release on Dec. 18, 2015. When asked whether he was curious to see what new Abrams has done with his galaxy far, far away, Lucas reportedly told Page Six, “not really.”

The trailer has already spawned a slew of imitators, including a Lego version; a tongue-in-cheek approximation of what “The Force Awakens” might look like if Lucas was still directing (complete with copious CGI additions and an Anakin Skywalker Force ghost); and a “Saturday Night Live” spoof that debuted during James Franco’s episode, riffing on the age of returning cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

What do you think of “The Force Awakens” trailer?

I like the new star wars trailer but I hate that hilted light saber.. that being said, I think George Lucas might have heard some stuff about the trailer and and just shook his head.

i don’t watch movies on opening day often but I will be with this new star wars (well, a couple days after because I’m not about to wait in line)

  2. Kudos to Lucas for being smart and self-disciplined enough to avoid spoilers and just enjoy the complete film in the theaters like it was designed to be.

He is smarter than most of you, which is why he has billions of dollars and you don’t.

George’s ego can’t get used to the fact that he is now past tense, and can’t alter Star Wars any more. The Lucas era of Star Wars is ended, the Disney era has begun. When Force Awakens hits theaters, the Prequels will become a distant footnote in history.

This is not a slam on Lucas. I personally like the Prequels. I simply think it is time to let go of Lucas’ style.

SNL is so crap now; and Franco with a shaved head looks like a baffon and Rogan was NOT funny; their opening monologue referencing pics was SO STUPID: and the spoof trailer was SO RETARDED… what a BUNCH OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I with Lucas.
