Toronto: Sierra/Affinity to Sell Foreign Rights to Mae Whitman’s ‘The DUFF’

Sierra/Affinity is launching international sales of CBS Films’ teen comedy “The DUFF,” starring Mae Whitman in the title role.

Bella Thorne, Allison Janney, Robbie Amell, Bianca Santos, Skyler Samuels, Nick Eversman and Ken Jeong also star. Ari Sandel directed from Josh Cagan’s script, which is based on Kody Keplinger’s novel.

Producers are McG, Mary Viola and Susan Cartsonis with Lane Bishop exec producing.  CBS Films will release “The DUFF” in North America on Feb. 20.

In the film, Whitman portrays a high school senior whose world is shattered when she discovers that she’s known as “The DUFF” — or the Designated Ugly Fat Friend — and decides to reinvent herself.
