Shailene Woodley’s ‘Insurgent’ Set for 3D Release

Lionsgate will release “Insurgent,” the second installment its “Divergent” franchise, in both 3D and 2D.

“Divergent,” which was not released in 3D, grossed nearly $300 million worldwide. “Insurgent” will be released worldwide on March 20 through Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label.

The official name of the film is “The Divergent Series: Insurgent.”

Lionsgate also began rolling out 3D character posters on Tuesday through its Facebook page.

“The second film in the ‘Divergent’ franchise takes the story and action to another level and, by partnering with RealD, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind-blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen,” said producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher.

Shailene Woodley and Theo James reprise their roles amid the ruins of a futuristic Chicago with both fugitives on the run, hunted by the power-hungry Erudite elite.

The series is based on the YA trilogy by Veronica Roth. The third and fourth “Allegiant” films in the series will be released in March, 2016, and March, 2017.
