Scott Kalvert, Director of ‘The Basketball Diaries’ Dies at 49

“The Basketball Diaries” director Scott Kalvert has died at age 49.

Kalvert was found at his home and pronounced dead on the scene in Woodland Hills, Calif., on Wednesday. His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.

Kalvert was known for casting Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg in 1995’s “The Basketball Diaries,” based on the book by Jim Carroll.

He also directed the 2002 film “Deuces Wild” and was a musicvideo director. Kalvert directed popular musicvideos including Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’s “Good Vibrations,” Salt ‘N Pepa’s “Shoop” and Cyndi Lauper’s “I Drove All Night.”

Kalvert is survived by his wife Sonia, two daughters, his father and mother and a brother.
