Ryan Reynolds to Return as ‘Deadpool’ in X-Men Spinoff

Deadpool Ryan Reynolds X-Men Origins Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds is closing a deal to star in Fox-Marvel’s “Deadpool,” their long-in-development “X-Men” spinoff.

Reynolds announced the news by posting an image Thursday of the Deadpool character on his Twitter account.

“It’s chimichanga time” is a reference to Deadpool’s favorite food. Mike Oncley created the rendition of the character’s head made up of spent bullet cartridges.

Fox announced several months ago that it had slotted “Deadpool” for Feb. 12, 2016. Reynolds, who portrayed the character in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” has been expected to star for many years.

Tim Miller is directing the superhero film from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Lauren Shuler Donner is  producing.

The talkative mercenary character, also known as Wade Wilson, was created by artist and writer Rob Liefeld and co-writer Fabian Nicieza. He first appeared in print in 1991.

Deadpool’s primary power is the ability to heal quickly.

With Reynolds reprising his role in the film, it will mark his first superhero project since “Green Lantern,” which floundered at the box office in 2011.

Reynolds is repped by WME.

About time! They really need hook up the budget too! A low budget for an extremely popular character, yet ANT MAN (marvel’s verion of aqua man, lame) gets a massive budget. WTF?

A Storm film would be amazing. However Halle Berry is a terrible Storm. She looks nothing like her, she was dull and totally ruined the character on film. I’m glad she’s done with playing Storm, so they can finally get the casting right with someone like lupita nyong’o

  3. I am glad that Fox decided to give Ryan Reynolds another change to play heroes again. I can’t wait to see the actor who will play the bad guy.

About time. People liked his Wade Wilson and one of the disappointing things about that film was the way they wasted him later on. The character is popular and Reynolds is just fine…Put him in the right film and you’ll get a hit, this has been proven too; and this is the right film.

Big mistake by Fox. Ryan Reynolds is not a popular actor with audiences–almost everything he does flops and a recent survey judging the bank-ability of various actors found that fewer people wanted to see a described movie after they were told that Ryan Reynolds starred in it. Ryan Reynolds comes across as smug and unlikable and is a poor choice to be a lead in a big budget movie.
