Rhys Ifans, John Malkovich, Diego Luna Star in Dylan Thomas Biopic (EXCLUSIVE)

Rhys Ifans will star as Welsh poet Dylan Thomas in indie drama “Dominion” with John Malkovich (pictured above) and Diego Luna.

Richard Gladstein is producing. Steven Bernstein (“Decoding Annie Parker”) is directing from his own script with plans to start shooting in late May.

The story will focus on the events surrounding the last days before his untimely death at the age of 39 in 1953 in New York, which included multiple visits to the White Horse Tavern in Greenwich Village.

Supporting cast includes Zosia Mamet (“Girls”), “Veep” star Tony Hale and Philip  Ettinger.

Ifans, a native of Wales, has appeared recently in “Anonymous, “The Five-Year Engagement” and “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Malkovich and Luna collaborated on “Chavez” with Luna directing and Malkovich starring.

Malkovich appeared last year in “Warm Bodies” and “Red 2.”

Bernstein wrote and directed “Decoding Annie Parker,” starring Samantha Morton, Aaron Paul and Helen Hunt and opening in U.S. theaters Friday. His credits as a cinematographer include “Like Water for Chocolate,” “Monster” and “Kicking and Screaming” and the TV series “Magic City.”

Gladstein helped Quentin Tarantino secure the financing for “Reservoir Dogs” and served as Miramax executive and exec producied “Pulp Fiction.” He founded Film Colony and produced “The Bourne Indentity” and two Best Picture Oscar nominees — “The Cider House Rules” and “Finding Neverland.”

    BBC Wales has just shown a similiar tv film A Welshman In New York,starring British actor Tom Holland to great acclaim-was so moving.Sadly it was only shown in Wales.Other people in the UK asking for it to be shown.Will be interesting to compare the two.By the way,the BBC are broadcasting a large number of programmes on tv and tadio this weekend to commemorate 100 years of Dylan Thomas’ birth.One of the programmes on BBC Wales radio is Largarne Live.Many thanks for your post from a proud Welshman.
