Paz Vega, Carmen Maura Head Down Under With Jim Loach

'Oranges And Sunshine"

HONG KONG – Spanish stars Paz Vega and Carmen Maura join with Edward James Olmos in the untitled new picture by British director Jim Loach which starts shooting next month.

The director returns to Australia where he previously made “Oranges And Sunshine” (pictured) with Emily Watson and Hugo Weaving.

Scripted by Judy Morris (“Happy Feet 2,” The Eye of the Storm,” “Babe: Pig in the City”), the picture is the tale of a 12 year old boy who tries to escape his dysfunctional, multi-generational Spanish family.

Production begins March 3 at the Adelaide Studios in South Australia and in the state’s Barossa Valley and Flinders Range wine country.

Rattle & Hum Films presents a Met Film and Southern Light Alliance production, with Stewart le Maréchal and Anna Mohr-Pietsch producing for Met Film alongside Timothy White (Son of a Gun, The Boys Are Back) and Anna Vincent for Southern Light Alliance. The South Australian Film Corporation has invested in the film. The completed film is set to be released early 2015 and will be distributed in Australia by Greenlight Releasing.

Other cast include Michael Crisafulli in the leading child role, along with Jarin Towney (Two Little Boys, Underbelly) Australian actress Jessica Marais (Love Child, Carlotta) Antonio de la Torre (Pedro Almodovar’s I’m So Excited and Volver) and Quim Gutierrez.

“It has a big, big heart and travels through a terrain that I’ve always wanted to explore – familial love and loss, and everything else in between. Developing it has been a joy and lots of fun, and I’m looking forward to shooting,” Loach said in a SAFC-prepared statement.

  1. I really have a great feeling about this stylized monetarily-sound film. Spanish superstars Paz Vega and Carmen Maura join’s Edward James Olmos in this wonderful epic tale of exploring the out-back. I believe this could be a win-win with the Spanish; American; and European markets. Also connected to this magnificent project is (British director) Jim Loach; his gift for film, and great artistry, will assure the films success as a whole. This is going to be great stuff!!!
