The March 2 Oscarcast will include a salute to “The Wizard of Oz.”
In the announcement, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron did not give details about what this will entail. They had earlier said that the show will be themed to the idea of heroes.
“The Wizard of Oz” was a best picture contender in 1939, receiving a total of six nominations and winning for original score and song.
“We are delighted to celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved movies of all time at this year’s Oscars,” the producers said in a statement. The Oscarcast will be held at the Dolby Theatre and air live on ABC.
