Open Road Sets Feb. 20 U.S. Release for Sean Penn’s ‘The Gunman’

Studiocanal bows action-thriller near day-and-date in France, Australia, U.K. and Germany

CANNES — Open Road has set a U.S. release dates of Feb. 20 for the Silver Pictures Sean Penn starrer “The Gunman.”

Euro film/TV group Studiocanal, which also financed and sold internationally “The Gunman,” will release the action thriller in France on Feb. 18 – its first commercial release – followed by Feb. 19 for Australia/New Zealand and Feb. 20 for the U.K. Studiocanal will release “The Gunman” in Germany on Feb. 26.

“The Gunman’s” roll-out looks set to mark the third near day-and-date key territory worldwide release on a big Studiocanal movie, after late Feb’s “Non-Stop,” another Silver Pictures production, and “Paddington,” produced by Harry Potter’s” David Heyman, which is set for a late Nov./early Dec. roll-out.

Helmed by Pierre Morel (“Taken”), “The Gunman” stars Penn as a former special forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD. He tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.

Also starring: Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca.

Announcing release dates on Friday, Open Road and Studiocanal also presented a new photo from “The Gunman” (pictured).
