Open Road touted the deal as making it a “one-stop shop” for filmmakers seeking worldwide distribution and said it will be able to provide equity and bank financing for productions. It will also continue to acquire films for distribution in the United States.
“As Open Road Films grows, expanding our domestic footprint to international sales was a natural progression,” Ortenberg said.
Open Road was launched in 2011 by AMC Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group. Its top grosser was “The Nut Job” with $98 million; other notable titles include “The Host,” “Killer Elite,” “The Grey” and “Side Effects.”
It opens Jake Gyllenhaal’s “Nightcrawler” on Friday.
