Kebab and Horoscope Rocks in My

New Europe Film Sales has picked up two pics slated to make their world premieres at the Karlovy Vary film festival: “Rocks in My Pockets,” by Signe Baumane, and “Kebab & Horoscope,” from  Grzegorz Jaroszuk.

“Rocks” is the first animated feature to unspool in Karlovy Vary’s competition. In “Rocks,” animator Baumane, who has made films addressing issues such as women’s rights and is also known for her collaboration with Bill Plympton, tackles the women in her family and their battles with madness. New Europe is handling world sales outside North America, where Zeitgeist will release the U.S./Latvian production theatrically.

“Kebab & Horoscope” is Grzegorz Jaroszuk’s first feature. His short “Frozen Stories” was also handled by New Europe and played the festival circuit, including Sundance and Locarno, and was nominated for a European Film Award in 2011.

“The acquisition goes in line with the company’s policy to follow our short film directors and support them when they produce feature film debuts,” said Jan Naszewski, CEO of New Europe Film Sales.

Produced by MD4 and Zentropa Poland (“In the Name of,” “Baby Blues”) black comedy Kebab & Horoscope”plays in Karlovy Vary’s East of the West competition sidebar.
