New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire has signed on as exec producer of the documentary feature “The Village of Peace,” which premieres Friday at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

“The Village of Peace” tells the story of the African Hebrew Israelites who migrated from Chicago to Israel in the late 1960s during the Civil Rights Movement. The film also portrays the lives of four villagers within the community.

Producer Sam Schuder sent Stoudemire the film’s trailer via Twitter. After meeting with Schuder and his brother Ben, he joined the team and began working on the post-production process.

“When I saw the rough cuts of ‘The Village of Peace,’ I was immediately intrigued and wanted to share this story on the global stage,” Stoudemire said in a statement.

Stoudemir, who has visited Israel several times, worked his production company, STATosphere Productions, and a team of young filmmakers on this project.

The film premieres at 10 a.m. at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
