First Lady Michelle Obama is hosting a screening and discussion at the White House on Wednesday of “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete,” which Lionsgate released last fall.

The movie — about two inner-city kids left to fend for themselves in the Bronx — will be attended by college and youth organizations, high school teachers and counselors and college students, the White House said. The screening will be followed by a “group discussion about the challenges and best practices regarding education access in underserved communities.”

The movie, directed by George Tillman Jr., stars Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon, along with Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Jeffrey Wright.

The movie debuted at last year’s Sundance and was acquired by Lionsgate’s Codeblack Films.

Hadn’t heard about this movie before now, but will look out for it. I really like Mrs Obama; There’s something really good and genuine about her. I’m glad she’s pushing education and getting kids focused on it.

  2. D. Brunson says:

This film definitely deserves the Firs Lady’s attention and deserves more widesprea national attention. Important, slice of life movie that all Americans should see and raise their level of awareness about how a large number of children live in this country.
