Marvel Reveals Title of 'Captain America

Marvel has announced the official title of the third film in Marvel Studios’ Captain America franchise: “Captain America: Civil War.”

The film, that will co-star Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., and feature a significant appearance by Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, is set for release May 6, 2016, and will launch the Civil War storyline from the Marvel comicbooks as Variety first reported.

Boseman will play T’Challa and appear in costume as Black Panther for the first time in “Civil War,” Marvel said.

“He will have a big role,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on Tuesday at a Marvel fan event at Disney’s El Capitan Theater.

The Civil War plot is a key one for Marvel’s cinematic universe, considering the bigscreen moral and physical battle will play out in multiple movies. In the comicbooks, Spider-Man is at the center of the storyline, which involves the world’s superheroes having to register with a government organization backed by billionaire Tony Stark.

But since its currently unable to integrate Spider-Man in its films — Sony has the sole rights — Black Panther appears to be taking the web slinger’s role.

“It’s a big storyline,” Feige said, adding that “this is the Civil War of the cinematic universe, inspired by comicbook universe, but the Civil War that’s based on all of the other films, particularly (‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’) and (‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’).”

At this point, Sony needs to think BIG PICTURE. Interest in the SPIDEY Franchise is waning. Inclusion into the MCU will only strengthen their chances to keep it long term. Make it happen.

It’s so ridiculous. These are grown up business man, and they can’t find an agreement to let Spidey appear in The Avengers? Geez, i bet currently Sony would make more money with a share than with their own Spidey movies whose revenue is declining with each new episode.

  3. Will says:

I hate how SONY is keeping spider-man hostage!!! No one likes the movies anymore! SONY should just give up spider-man! SONY is just rewriting the stories, the movies are no good anymore……. Pleeeeeease SONY just give spidey back where he belongs!

Holding Spider-Man hostage? They paid for him fair and square. He makes them money, and this is a business. Blame Marvel for going bankrupt and selling the character off.
