“Saw” actor Lyriq Bent has come on board to star opposite Nicolas Cage in Voltage Films’ supernatural thriller “Pay the Ghost.”

Shooting is underway in Toronto with Uli Edel (“The Baader Meinhof Complex”) directing.

Producers are Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Craig Flores along with Ian Levy of Midnight Kitchen Prods. and Patrick Newall. Cybill Lui and Dennis Berardi of Mr. X are executive producers. Voltage’s Babacar Diene and Dominic Rustam are co-producing.

Variety reported in May that Cage had signed on the project with Voltage launching sales at Cannes.

Cage plays a hard working NYU English professor bucking for tenure when his 8-year-old son mysteriously vanishes from a Halloween parade. Bent will play a detective in the film, which also stars Sarah Wayne Callies (“The Walking Dead”).

The screenplay was written by Dan Kay, based on a short story of the same name written by fantasy novelist Tim Lebbon. Kay developed the script with Levy on spec and it was acquired by Voltage.

Bent starred in the second, third and fourth “Saw” movies. He’s in the BET/CBC miniseries “Book of Negroes” and on Syfy’s “12 Monkeys” TV series, which debuts in January 2015.

Bent is represented by Associates Talent & Literary Management, Pakula/King & Associates and Seth Management.
