Toronto: Lionsgate-Roadside Attractions Buys Beach Boys Biopic ‘Love & Mercy’

Love and Mercy Toronto Film Festival

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have bought North American rights to Beach Boys biopic “Love & Mercy” for $3 million.

The deal was announced at the Toronto Film Festival, three days after its premiere at the Elgin.

John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti star in the drama, which focuses on the struggles of Brian Wilson. Cusack plays the older version of Wilson and Dano portrays the younger.

Variety’s Andrew Barker gave “Love” a strong review, calling it “a wonderfully innervating cure for the common muiscal biopic.”

River Road topper Bill Pohlad directed from a script by Oren Moverman and Michael Alan Lerner. Production companies are River Road Entertainment and Battle Mountain Films.

Producers are Pohlad, Claire Rudnick Polstein and John Wells. Ann Ruark, Jim Lefkowitz and Moverman executive produced.

CAA repped the North American rights.
