Kevin Smith’s ‘Tusk’ Set for Sept. 19 Release

Kevin Smith’s monster movie “Tusk” has been set for a Sept. 19 release by A24 Films. It’s his first film since 2011’s “Red State.”

Smith made the announcement on his Twitter account Thursday:

The film stars Justin Long, Michael Parks, Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment. Producers are Demarest Films’ Sam Englebardt, David Greathouse and Shannon McIntosh.

Originating from one of Smith’s SModcasts, it follows a journalist (Long) who encounters a worldwide adventurer (Parks) and finds himself a plaything in the gruesome plot of a deranged killer.

Smith directed from his own script, which evolved from episode 259 of his Smodcast podcast. Smodcast Pictures produced “Red State” and the animated “Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.”

Smith will debut the trailer on July 25 at Comic-Con at a panel called “The Musk of Tusk: An Evening With Kevin Smith.”

“After all the interesting and exciting movie panels are over, Hall H belongs to a middle-aged man who once worked with BatFleck!” the description says. “Ask ComiKev questions and get ready to say #WalrusYes as Kev premieres the trailer to his first film in three years: the twisted, transformative tale of Tusk! Wrap up a busy Friday with the Clown Prince of Comic-Con!”
