Kate Winslet Triple Nine

Australian filmmaker John Hillcoat seems to have attracted a big name for his next project: Oscar-winner Kate Winslet. Sources confirm to Variety that the actress is in talks to join Hillcoat’s upcoming crime thriller “Triple Nine.”

She would star opposite Casey Affleck, “12 Years a Slave” actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot, Teresa Palmer and Michael Pena. Open Road as come on as a distributor with Sierra/Affinity handling international sales at Berlin.

Worldview entertainment will finance the pic.

Hillcoat, who directs from a script by Matt Cook, most recently helmed the crime drama “Lawless,” starring Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf, and also directed the 2009 adaptation of “The Road.”

The story of “Triple Nine” revolves around a group of corrupt cops who plan a major heist.  The term “triple nine” is also police code when an officer needs immediate assistance.

Keith Redmon, Bard Dorros and Steve Golin are producing the crime thriller for Anonymous Content.

Winslet, nominated for a Golden Globe for Jason Reitman’s “Labor Day,” will next star in Summit’s “Divergent” due in March. She is repped by CAA and United Agents.
