Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of the newcomers in “Sin City: A Dame to Kill” and recently wrapped Robert Zemeckis’ 3D drama “The Walk,” but there’s another buzzed about adaptation on audiences’ minds.

According to Gordon-Levitt, “Sandman” is still in the early stages of development. The multi-hyphenate actor will direct and produce the film from a script by David S. Goyer, based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed comic book series.

“Right now we’re working on a script,” he told Moviefone. “It’s me and Goyer and the screenwriter and Neil Gaiman, as well as the good folks at DC and Warner Bros. It’s a really cool team of people. It’s a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan ‘Batman’ movies.”

Unlike “Sin City,” which was written as a graphic novel, Gordon-Levitt said “Sandman” is a more “complicated adaptation” because it consists of 75 episodic issues.

“There’s a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt ‘Sandman’ for the past 20 years,” he said.

He also said that the writing team is conceptualizing the Sandman universe as a whole.

“It’s such a huge world,” Gordon-Levitt said. “We’re definitely talking about in terms of a whole world.”

The name to remember from this article: David S. Goyer.
There’s absolutely no middle with this man – either his screenplay for this movie will be great or it will be a complete disaster. And that will set the tone for the rest of the production.

No, Jack Thorne is writing the screenplay, and he is an excellent writer who has already written a screenplay for another of Neil Gaiman’s works, so should have a feel for the right tone. David S. Goyer is supervising the treatment and is a good ideas man. As for Joseph Gordon-Levitt… judging from Don Jon, his work with hitRECord, and even his involvement in his character’s Sin City 2 storyline, has good instincts. The Sandman is tremendously ambitious, and I’m optimistic about this team.

  5. Hatcher says:

Not sure what ‘sandman’ really means, can someone pls explain? – Isnt he from marvel?

    • ZandyZ says:

Sandman is the story about Dream or Morpeheus who’ve been trap because human want to catch Death (Dream’s Sister). This is not Marvel’s Sandman

  6. nan00se says:
