Johnny Depp will receive the first ever distinguished artisan award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, Local 706. The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards, which return after a 10-year hiatus, will take place on Feb. 15 at Paramount Studios.
The distinguished artisan award is given to those whose body of work in the film industry was richly enhanced by the consistent collaboration of make-up and hair styling artistry, creating memorable characters throughout their career.
“Make-up and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award,” guild president Susan Cabral-Ebert said in a statement. “He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters…A great artist himself, he allows others to shine.”
Movies in which Depp’s most notable characters who have been enhanced by make-up artistry appear in include “Edward Scissorhands,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Alice in Wonderland” and the recently Oscar-nominated “The Lone Ranger,” among many others.
