The project is based on a Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth, published in July, about a Houston family that pulled off two heists before members were caught attempting a third. Scott Catt, a structural engineer, teamed with his 20-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter for the robberies.
Reitman is producing through his Right of Way company and his father, Ivan, is a producer via Montecito Picture Co. Right of Way’s Helen Estabrook and Montecito’s Ali Bell are also producing.
The Reitmans collaborated on “Up in the Air” with Jason directing. He most recently directed “Men, Women and Children” for Paramount.
Nick Hornby will write the script. He adapted the “Wild” script for Searchlight, which is opening the Reese Witherspoon drama Dec. 3.
Jason Reitman is repped by WME and attorneys Alan Wertheimer and Kimberly Jaime. Hornby is repped by WME and Casarotto Ramsay and Associates in the U.K.
