The film follows Gyllenhaal, who prowls the streets of Los Angeles as a driven man who discovers the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles.
“I believe good things come to those who work their asses off,” his character says in the trailer. “If you want to win the lottery, you have to make the money to buy a ticket.”
Dan Gilroy wrote and directed the pic. Gyllenhaal also produced along with Jennifer Fox, Tony Gilroy, Bold Films’ chairman Michel Litvak and David Lancaster. Bold Films financed and its CEO Gary Michael Walters exec produced with Betsy Danbury.
“Nightcrawler” was shot in Los Angeles and was allocated a $2.3 million tax credit from the state of California.
The film will screen at the Toronto Film Festival and open in the U.S. on Oct. 17.
