Germany’s Lars Eidinger Joins Albania-Set ‘Sworn Virgin’ (EXCLUSIVE)

German thesp Lars Eidinger (“The Clouds of Sils Maria”) has joined Italo Alba Rohwarcher (“Le Meraviglie”) in Albania-set drama “Sworn Virgin.” Match Factory will continue pre-sales in Cannes after kicking them off in Berlin, where it was picked up by Gaul’s Pretty Pictures.

Helmed by Italo first-timer Laura Bispuri, “Virgin” turns on an archaic Albanian custom that sees the protag, played by Rohrwacher, swear to remain a virgin and basically impersonate a man in order to obtain the same rights as men within a village community. Pic is based on a novel by Elvira Dones.

Rohrwacher will be on the Cannes red carpet with competition entry “Le Meraviglie,” helmed by her sister Alice, while Eidinger is expected on the Croisette to tubthump Olivier Assayas’ “Sils Maria.”

“Virgin” is being produced by Vivo Film. Match Factory is co-producing.
