German Helmer Edgar Reitz To Be Honored By Locarno Fest Spin-Off

"Heimat" helmer will hold workshop and screen his latest pic "Home From Home -- Chronicle of a Vision"

ROME – German helmer Edgar Reitz, best known for Teutonic historical saga “Heimat,” will be the guest of honour at the second Locarno Film Festival L’immagine e la Parola (Images and Words) spin-off, which will run April 12-15.

Reitz, 81, will hold a workshop on depicting history through cinematic art at this separate spin-off of the Swiss fest dedicated to indie cinema.

Reitz’s latest work, “Home From Home — Chronicle of a Vision,” a 19th-century-set prequel to “Heimat,” which world-preened at Venice last year, will have its Swiss preem during the three-day event which is for film students at specialised schools and universities and only partly open to the public.

Locarno topper Carlo Chatrian in a statement praised “Heimat” for being  “an extraordinary laboratory through which one can reflect on the concept of homeland” and called Reitz “one of the most original and coherent auteurs in world cinema.”

Last year’s guest of honour at the spin-off was revered Russian auteur  Aleksandr Sokurov.

The full program of this year’s L’immagine e la Parola  will be announced in March.

The 67th edition of the Locarno fest will run August 6-16.
