Focus Features has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “London Has Fallen,” sequel to “Olympus Has Fallen,” and set an Oct. 2, 2015 release date.

“London Has Fallen” will go up against Fox’s “Frankenstein” on the date. Gerard Butler has returned for the sequel, which does not have a director.

The story will take place in London with an attack on the city during the funeral of the British prime minister, who has died under mysterious circumstances. Butler will reprise his role as a U.S. Secret Service agent.

The script for the sequel is written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt and Christian Gudegast.  The film is being produced by Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, Matt O’Toole and Heidi Jo Markel.

“Olympus Has Fallen” was released last year in March by FilmDistrict, the U.S. distributor led by Peter Schlessel prior to him being named CEO of Focus Features. The film grossed $98.9 million at the domestic box office.

  1. Jordan says:

This is all well and good but the big question is will they be using the same Atari 2600 to do the sfx again?

Also, I couldn’t care less about London, personally I’d be happy to see the place wiped off of the face of the earth.

  2. Mark says:

Hollywood’s idea of creativity: make the same movie again, but put it in a different location. The suckers will spend their money. *sigh*

    • Bill says:

If you don’t like the movies that come out of Hollywood, then why don’t you write your own damn screenplay and quit complaining sucker!

  3. rex says:

White House Down will then be ??? Buckinhgam Palace Down?

  4. Joan says:

This should be great. I have heard that the scenes around London are recognisable. Ie Buckinhgam Palace and a few others. Promises to even better than OHF. Looking forward to it.

  5. Wayne says:

If this is what we have for a modern John McClane/Die Hard setup so be it (do better Hollywood if you want something better). While the whole movie was a C+ or B- at best, the “taking of the White House” for ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ was pure testosterone, ludicrousness that I enjoyed very much in 1080p.

  6. Cesar says:

I liked the first movie, look forward to seeing this one!
